Did you know that Osijek has the longest brewing tradition in Croatia and that beer production in north-east Croatia has taken place since prehistoric times? Learn more about Slavonian beer story.
Osijek is the city with the longest tradition of beer production in Croatia, where beer has been produced since the 17th century. The oldest evidence of brewing in Osijek dates from 1664.
The culture of brewing in Slavonia comes from the time of the Vučedol culture from all the way back in the 3rd century BC, from the area which is now the proud town of Vukovar. If you like, you can familiarize yourself with the story of prehistoric beer in the Museum of Slavonia, located in the old part of Osijek, (Tvrđa/Fortress), where you can learn how the beer was produced during that period, what kind of role beer played in the diet of local people and how traditional ‘’beer mugs’’ looked at that time.
On the Osijek beer route, while visiting Osijek pubs we shall also pass the famous Osijek parks, beautiful Secession (art deco) houses, large central city market and old town Tvrđa on a nice, easy stroll around the wider centre of the city. During the beer tasting, you will also learn all the information that a true beer fan should know about. Such as different types of beer, how it is made, from which glass you drink which beer and much more.
Food & Beer, food and beer is the perfect combination for a perfect experience, and if you are willing to please your taste buds and stomach even more with a meal that will ‘’settle’’ most easily and comfortably after drinking beer, you can please that wish too.
