EXPERIENCE UNESCO: TRADITIONAL DALMATIAN SINGING IN OMIŠ

Authentic experience

Traditional Dalmatian singing is so special that UNESCO has included it in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012.

The name of this style of singing is klapa singing. It is a traditional multipart homophonic a Capella singing. Meaning, it is formed of three-part and four-part mixed voices led by the first tenor and it is performed without instruments.

On the sightseeing walk around the town, you will learn that the most important festival of klapa singing is organized in Omis and that it is one of the most important cultural events in Croatia.

Find out:

  • how people of Omis came with an idea to organize it,
  • what a local fisherman has to do with it,
  • what they are singing about,
  • what is the difference between traditional, festival and modern klapa singing,
  • where are they singing and why,
  • what the word klapa means
  • and much more while wandering around Omiš streets.

Enjoy authentic Mediterranean spirit on this tour and step into the world of an inspiring experience. Explore cultural and historical sights and ‘cult’ places like konoba to connect with the true feeling of Dalmatia.
